GEORGE TOWN – Penang which enjoyed a brief spell of festivity with Mohd Faiz Subri’s amazing freekick were brought down to earth when they were knocked out of the FA Cup by club side Kuantan FA 2-4 in a second round match last night.
Both sides had their fair share of the game which looked poised for a goalless draw until Penang’s Mathias Cordoba opened the score in the 80th minute and Kuantan FA managed to squeeze in the equaliser in the 90th minute via Dao Bakary to take the match into extra time.
It was an exciting 30 minutes of play when Kuantan FA suddennly bursted with vigor to lead 3-1 with goals from Nakata Shunsake in the 105th minute followed by Abdul Malik Mat Arif in 108th minute.
Penang fought back and netted their second goal in the 111th minute by Cordoba again but Kuantan FA sealed the match when Bakary slotted their fourth goal in the 114th minute.
Penang coach Jackson Farreira Tiago blamed poor defence and loss of concentration when they conceded three goals within a 10-minute spell.
Kuantan FA coach Zulhamizan Zakariah attributed their hard-earned victory to the full commitment of players who fought right to the final minute.
Meanwhile Mohd Faiz Subri whose sensational freekick garnered world fame was pulled out in the 32nd minute with a leg injury.
