FA Cup: Khairul Amri Seeks Early Goal Against Kelantan

in Latest/Sports

KUALA LUMPUR – Lions XII lethal striker, Mohammad Khairul Amri Mohammad Kamal intends to score early in the FA Cup final against Kelantan at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil tomorrow.

The 30-year-old player, who is also a striker for Singapore’s national team, said an early goal would increase the motivation of the republic’s young squad and brighten their chances of lifting the FA Cup for the first time.

“We need to be careful for the first 15-20 minutes because not only the Kelantan team, but it is difficult to face most Malaysian teams for a couple of minutes at the beginning of a match. We will try to sneak through Kelantan’s defence to find one or two goals,” he told reporters after a training session with the team at the National Stadium, here, today.

Meanwhile, Lions XII’ defender, Safuwan Baharudin is confident the squad handled by Fandi Ahmad is capable of lifting the FA Cup if they fully focus in the match.

Safwan is back in action with the Singapore team after a serious back injury when he was on loan with Australian-League side, Melbourne City.

“We never let each other down, and motivate each other to do well. For tomorrow, I want to give the best for the nation. The combination of young and experienced players can bring success,” he said.

In the meantime, ‘The Red Warriors’ skipper, Mohd Badhri Mohd Radzi urged his teammates to give their best to ensure the FA Cup, which was introduced in 1990, remained on Malaysian soil.

“We hope Kelantan wins this year’s edition of the FA Cup. We also hope that the cup remains in Malaysia as it involves the dignity of the country,” he said.

Mohd Badri also known as ‘Piya’ among teammates hopes to rediscover his magic touch in the match tomorrow night, after displaying blandness with Kelantan in the Super League this season.

Similarly defender, Nik Shahrul Azim Abdul Halim is also confident the squad handled by Mohd Azraai Khor Abdullah can win if it can maintain its current performance in the last three games.

“We have prepared for this game in the last three to four days and from today we will give full focus. I hope our players can play better compared with earlier matches.

“The Lions XII are fast and quick, so we have to prevent players like the dangerous Khairul Amri,” said the 24-year-old player. – BERNAMA
