KUALA LUMPUR – Defending champion, Kedah had to work hard to win 1-0 over Negeri Sembilan at the Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar tonight before they managed to secure a place in the 2018 FA Cup third round.
Team captain Baddrol Bakhtiar emerged as the Red Eagle’s hero when he scored the winning goal in the 119th minute after the squad under Ramon Marcote found a dead end in their quest for goal throughout the game.
In the match, Negeri Sembilan defenders, led by goalkeeper Muhammad Ilham Amirullah Razali, deserve a pat on their backs for the determination shown in curbing unrelenting strikes from Kedah.
However, luck was not favourable to the Mohd Azraai Khor Abdullah’s squad when the pass from Andik Vermansah of Kedah at the end of the second half extra time saw easy score for Baddrol.
Accompanying Kedah to the third round is the 2016 finalist, PKNS FC which managed to subdue a team from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Hanelang FC 4-1 at the Shah Alam Stadium.
National Under-23 squad striker, Muhammad Jafri Muhd Firdaus Chew gave the Datuk K. Rajagobal’s side the lead in the ninth minute but the visiting team quickly equalised the standing via Muhammad Munawar Shavukath Ali in the 12th minute.
