KUANTAN – The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia will seek the help of the police and the Home Ministry to extradite controversial blogger Alvin Tan from the United States or any country he is known to be seeking asylum.
Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said Alvin Tan who is believed to be in the US needs to be extradited immediately to face legal action here since the blogger had ridiculed Islam.
“We have through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) written to the management of Facebook (FB) to erase images downloaded by Alvin Tan in his Facebook.
“We are now seeking the help of the police and Home Ministry to urge the US government to extradite the blogger so that he can face legal action here. He (Alvin Tan) knows that as long as he is abroad, he can avoid facing legal action,” he told reporters at the “Juara Bertemu Juara Bintang Klasik” final competition, at the Darul Makmur Auditorium, RTM Pahang, Kuantan, here Saturday.
Also present were Broadcasting Director-General Datuk Abu Bakar Ab Rahim and Paya Besar Member of Parliament Datuk Abd Manan Ismail who represented the Pahang Menteri Besar.
After creating several controversies like allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad and inviting Muslims on Facebook to break fast with a pork soup, Alvin once again provoked Muslims in this country when he uploaded a picture of himself with a tattoo of the word ‘Allah’ on the back of his thigh.
The controversial blogger had also allegedly threatened to rape the daughter of a leader who had questioned those who participated in the Bersih 4 rally recently.
Meanwhile, Rasyidah Abd Rahim, 24, from Kluang, Johor was crowned overall champion in the competition and walked away with RM65,000 and a trophy.
