KUALA LUMPUR- The European Union (EU) is looking forward to work with the new government in Malaysia to further strengthen Malaysia and EU relations for the benefit of Malaysians and European citizens.
An EU spokesman in a statement today said the EU also expected Malaysia’s 14th General Election result on Wednesday to be respected, beginning with a smooth and orderly transfer of power, in line with the Malaysian Constitution.
“In the General Election of May 9, the Malaysian people have voted for peaceful change,” the statement added.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad created history today when he took the oath of office as the Prime Minister of Malaysia for the second time and at the age of 92 at Istana Negara last night.
The swearing-in took place in the wake of Pakatan Harapan’s victory in the 14th general election yesterday.- New Straits Times
