KUALA TERENGGANU – Savings through the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) have brought relief to many people, especially during difficult times.
This happens to Afandi Mahadi, 49, who has no insurance coverage or savings when he suffered a stroke.
“At that time, I felt the world collapsed and everything was dark, I was not able to work because of the stroke and was in dire financial straits, but my EPF savings save me, I was able to pay the hospital bills and also my personal debts,” he said when met by Bernama here .
Afandi, a former cameraman with a news agency, said although his monthly subscription to the fund was not much, the EPF saving was of great help.
“I just did not know what to do then because I was out of job, there was the hospital bills to pay and the car and motorcycle loans to pay.
“It was a friend who told me that I could withdraw my EPF savings because of my health condition, and that I do not have to wait until I am 55 years-old to do so,” he added.
Afandi said he applied to withdraw his EPF savings and the application was approved.
“After getting the money, I settled my hospital bills,” he said, adding that he was allowed to withdraw all his EPF savings because he was categorised as physically unfit to work.
He said he was called for an interview to determine his eligibility to withdraw his EPF savings.
“The process is not difficult. First, I went to the EPF counter to apply and a week later I was called for an interview.
“Two days after the interview, I received a message from EPF notifying me that my application was approved and the money had been deposited into my bank account,” he added.
Adnan said he could not described his feelings then and was relieved to know he had the money to settle his debts.
He praised the EPF staff for their efficiency in discharging their duties, especially in helping individuals like him, to prepare the necessary documents when submitting their applications for the EPF withdrawal.
“I am very satisfied with the treatment by the EPF employees who are very professional in their work, and their advice for me to manage my finances well,” he added. – BERNAMA
