KUALA LUMPUR – Popular entertainment journalist Abdul Jalil Salleh, 62, better known as ‘Mama Juwie’ died of colon cancer at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) here yesterday.
His younger brother, Osman Salleh when contacted by Bernama said Juwie died at 10.41 pm.
“He was unconscious after undergoing the second colon operation yesterday while the first operation was on March 23,” he said.
Osman said his brother had been at HUKM Intensive Care Unit for 12 days after the first operation.
Juwie’s body will be brought to his sister’s home in Selayang Baru and is expected to be laid to rest at the Selayang Muslim cemetery, he said.
Mama Juwie who hailed from Singapore was the sixth of eight siblings, and wrote the lyrics of several popular songs in the 80’s including ‘Kau Kunci Cintaku Di Dalam Hati Mu’, ‘Cinta Hanyut Di Lautan Sepi’ and ‘Bila Rindu Ku Sebut Nama Mu’.
He was an entertainment journalist with Berita Harian and Utusan Melayu and was the entertainment editor of Mangga magazine.
