KUALA LUMPUR – The national Under-19 football squad’s (Harimau Muda C) hopes of qualifying for the finals of the AFC Under-19 Cup in Bahrain next year came to an end when they lost their second Group I match yesterday.
In the match played at the Huai’an Stadium, Jiangsu, China, they lost 0-1 to North Korea with the solitary goal scored by Han Il Hyok in the 54th minute, according to AFC’s website www.the-afc.com.
On Friday, Harimau Muda C were thrashed 6-0 by China.
Harimau Muda C coach Hassan Sazali Mohd Waras said his boys performed well but luck was not on their side.
“We took the game to them but failed to convert our chances whereas they had one good chance and made it count,” he was quoted as saying on the FA of Malaysia’s website www.fam.org.my.
Their next and final group match is against Macau at the same venue on Tuesday.
In another Group I match, China, who were runners-up three times, mauled Macao 8-0 and are more or less assured of a ticket to Bahrain.
