Embattled Perlis MB Azlan Man Clocks In For Work

in Politics/Top News

KANGAR – Embattled Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man started work today after having been sworn in yesterday without the presence of the other nine Barisan Nasional assemblymen who had objected to his appointment.

Azlan, 60, arrived at his office at the State Legislative Assembly Complex here at 10.10 am and allowed press photographers to take some pictures but declined to issue any statement on the crisis over the post of menteri besar.

“It’s time to start work, no more drama. There are administrative matters to attend to; work more, talk less,” he said.

Azlan, the state assemblyman for Bintong, was sworn in as the menteri besar for the second term yesterday following the BN victory in the general election on May 9, capturing 10 of the 15 seats in the legislative assembly for a two-thirds majority. Pakatan Harapan won three seats and PAS, two.

Even as Azlan was being sworn in at Istana Arau yesterday, Perlis BN chairman and Perlis UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and the nine BN assemblymen stated at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur that Azlan did not have the support of the majority of assemblymen.

Shahidan also said that Perlis UMNO wanted the party supreme council to expel Azlan from the party. – BERNAMA
