KOTA KINABALU – Former Liverpool striker and Senegal international El Hadji Diouf is expected to propel Sabah to the top of the Premier League when the 2015 season starts.
Sabah team’s chief executive officer Datuk Seri TC Goh was confident that based on the performance of the team in a number of friendly matches against foreign based teams, including the Asia International tournament in Yunnan, China, last month, Goh was confident the target can be achieved.
“We are confident of returning to the glory days of Sabah football and finish at the top of the Premier League and gain promotion to the Super League,” he told reporters after appearing as a guest on TVi ‘Kami Bah Ini’ at the Sabah Communications and Multimedia Ministry’s Integrated Complex, here Thursday.
The last time Sabah played in the Super League was in 2012.
Meanwhile, Diouf said his presence in the Sabah squad was not only to improve the quality of football in the state but in the country as a whole.
“For a start I will learn Bahasa Malaysia as a bridge to communicate with the team for better understanding,” he said. – Bernama
