KOTA KINABALU – An evening attempt to trek through the trails of the Sandakan Rainforest Park turned out to be a harrowing affair for eight people.
They became lost in the winding trails of the 150ha park and had to call for help as darkness set in.
The eight comprising five men and three women, all in their 20’s, started trekking though the park’s trails at about 5pm on Sunday.
After more than an hour, the group realised they were lost as they were unable to retrace their steps.
One of the group members then raised the alert through the 999 emergency call.
A team from Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department rushed to the park and arrived at the scene 6.45pm.
After combing through the trails, the firemen headed by officer in charge Devi Rasheedee Ensoi found the lost hikers at about 7.30pm. – The Star
