SERDANG – Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the role of the Education Ministry’s staff has become increasingly important following the stress or emphasis on education as a primary concern at present.
Hence, Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the trust and great responsibility should be shouldered with care by the ministry’s staff to continue upholding the national education system, including the implementation of the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025.
‘If you count the number of officers, including staff, teanchers and their families, the total is more than one million involved, which shows the Education Minister is a ministry that is very vital,” he said when launching the Education Ministry’s Family Day here today.
He said among the progress in the educational field that had become a focus of attention related to the teaching of Mandarin, which was discussed jointly with Chinese leaders during his recent visit to China in line with the call for school children to be given the opportunty to learn a third language.
According to him, the government of China agreed to assist Malaysia in providing skilled teaching manpower in Mandarin language to be placed in schools to help Mandarin language teachers. who had been appointed or would be appointed in future.
“This is aimed at enriching the language besides the Malay and English languages in our education system as was expressed in the drafting of the education blueprint,” said Muhyiddin.
At the same time, he said, the Malay language internationalisation programme that was launched by him in that country, was expected to expand the national language in China.
“In China, eight universities have begin the Malay language learning and teaching programme for instance,” he said.
At the Family Day, Muhyiddin also participated in the aerobics and sports events with the ministry’s staff.
Also present were his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and Deputy Education Ministers P.Kamalanathan and Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching. – BERNAMA
