BENTONG – The east Coast railway link (ECRL) once completed will boost the ecotouriosm sector in Bentong, according to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who is also Bentong member of parliament.
“When the ECRL is completed, the ecotourism sector will be further activated as Bentong has many attractions besides local products such as from agriculture.
“We plan to set up a centre to market agricultural products, which will indirectly enhance the economy of the local people,” he said after opening the Sekolah Kebangsaan Karak Parent-Teachers annual general meeting here today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the proposed construction of the ECRL stretching about 600 kilometres while tabling Budget 2017.
The ECRL will connect Klang Valley and Kuantan, Pahang up to Terengganu as well as Tumpat, Kelantan.
The project is scheduled to start in July this year and for completion in June 2024. – BERNAMA
