Dream Comes True, Elizabeth Tan Sings On Disney

KUALA LUMPUR – Popular singer Elizabeth Tan’s dream of working with Disney Channel has come true as she will perform Kini Masaku, the Malay version of the series’ theme song, My Time.

“This is like a dream come true to sing Disney’s ‘Elena of Avalor’ theme song in Malay, and this is not a typical Disney song, it’s a fight song and this is something new.

It is an honour to work with Disney, I mean, who wouldn’t want to work with Disney,” said the 23-year-old ‘Knock Knock’ singer during the media preview at The Bee restaurant in Publika, recently.

My Time, or Kini Masaku, is a song about empowerment and self-belief. It resonates with the series that follows Elena’s journey set in an enchanted fairytale land of Avalor.

‘Elena of Avalor’ takes place in the same universe as ‘Sofia the First,’ about a brave and adventurous Latina princess who has saved her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must now learn to rule as crown princess until she is old enough to be queen.

HER RESEMBLANCE

“Princess Elena resembles me so much because she is adventurous and never give up easily, so this song will touch not only kids, but adults too,” Tan told Bernama.

Created by Craig Gerber, Elena Of Avalor is highly-anticipated in the US, as she is introduced as Disney’s first Latina princess.

“Honestly, I wasn’t confident I could do it because I was not sure whether my vocals would suit Disney’s requirements. I mean, what if I am unable to deliver the high notes?” she said.

“I took it up as a challenge and was fortunate to be working with a sound engineer who guided her through the process,” said Tan, adding that the recording was done locally in less than four hours.

“I sang the song in my own style, and I hope the audience will enjoy it,” she added.

Disney Channel has also localised the song in Bahasa Indonesia, performed by Indonesian singer Chilla Kiana.

The animated series will premiere on Nov 13 at 11am on Astro Channel 615.

Tan’s music video is now live on the Disney Channel Asia YouTube page:www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBxcjy2ozHg. It is also aired on Disney Channel (Astro Ch 615) since its debut on Nov 1.
