KLANG: Former Selangor Mentri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo is officially a free man after completing a two-month parole.

He signed his end-of-parole document at the Klang District Parole office Friday morning.

On his immediate plans, Dr Mohd Khir said he will take a break to spend time with his family first.

However, he added, he would be setting up a non-governmental organisation to help prisoners currently serving time.

“Some of them are not visited by their family members and because of this, don’t get the things they need such as clothing,” said Dr Khir when met shortly after he walked out of the parole office.

On his time in prison, Dr Mohd Khir said he had learnt a lot during his time there.

“It is how you look at it. I spent 10 hours reading daily,” he added.

On his possible return to politics, as he is only 51, Dr Mohd Khir did not dismiss the possibility.

Asked if he would be present at the introduction of potential Barisan Nasional candidates in Sungai Besar Friday night, Dr Mohd Khir said he probably would.

The event will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and the party’s Wanita leader Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

He was granted parole on March 29 this year after serving half of his one-year prison term for corruption.

On Sept 22 last year, the Federal Court upheld Dr Mohd Khir’s 12-month jail sentence and found him guilty of using his position to obtain two plots of land and a bungalow unit in Section 7, Shah Alam, eight years ago.
