in Top News

KUALA LUMPUR – The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) believe the main suspects in the murder of Palestinian imam and lecturer Dr Fadi Mohammed Al Batsh in Setapak last Saturday are still in the country, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

However, he said, police were facing difficulty tracking them down as they were believed to have used false identities to enter the country and while staying here.

“There is also a possibility the suspects have changed their appearances by cutting off their hair or shaving their beards to avoid detection.

“So we will continue to work with the relevant agencies to identify the suspects to help in the investigation,” he said after revealing the face of one of the suspects at a press conference held in Bukit Aman here today.

Replying to a question on the photograph of the suspect, Mohammad Fuzi said it was obtained from the public after a motorcycle used by the two suspects was found abandoned near Tasik Danau Kota in Setapak here yesterday.

Mohamad Fuzi said police believed the suspects have been in the country since last January.

On speculations that the suspects were agents of the Israel intelligence agency Mossad, Mohamad Fuzi said the police have not confirmed that.

“I have never made that statement…do not make wild guesses, let us investigate all angles first.

“However, we are not discounting the possibility that they were professionally trained to carry out such missions,” he said.

Mohamad Fuzi urged anyone with any information on the suspects to contact the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa at telephone number 019-6992261 or investigating officer ASP Shahrizal Salleh at 017-7134705.

Fadi, an electrical engineering engineer was shot dead outside the Idaman Puteri condomium in Setapak here while walking to Surau Medan Idaman for subuh prayers at about 6 am on Saturday.

Two men on a motorcycle, who were said to have been waiting for him, fired 10 shots towards the 35-year-old victim. – BERNAMA
