KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPM) deputy president associate professor Dr Anuar Suun is now acting president of MPM following the suspension of Datuk Zainal Abu Zarin.
MPM honorary secretary Siti Zaharah Abdul Khalid said Zainal was suspended from the post since June pending the outcome of an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission against him for allegedly misappropriating MPM funds.
Zainal allegedly misappropriated RM4 million belonging to MPM by investing it in an event management company, Paralimpik Ventures Sdn Bhd managed by him and his two sons, Idi Irwan and Ilia Ikhwan.
Zaharah said, according to MPM constitution, Zainal was still holding the highest post until a new leadership election to be held at the annual general meeting in June.
She said this to reporters after attending the opening of a 2015 Malaysian Paralympic Sports Carnival at Tasik Titiwangsa, here, today by Youth and Sports Ministry’s Disabled Sport Development branch director Mohd Zaki Mahmud.
Zaharah said the crisis did not affect the progress of paralympic athlete development programmes, and their welfare was well looked after.
On the ceremony today, MPM vice-president Dr Ang Kean Koo said MPM, for the first time, held the event to introduce paralympic sports to the public and to identify new talents.
The carnival involved 20 associations under MPM. – BERNAMA
