KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has suggested that members of the public and companies wishing to give aid to the flood victims obtain information on the types of goods required.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that besides helping in the process to provide important and beneficial items, the move could also avoid wastage.
“If there is already too much rice, they may then need sugar, powdered milk or napkins according to their needs.
“For example, just now I suggested that the Tesco supermarket obtain information before proceeding with the operation to provide contribution so that what is supplied is not wasted and will benefit the recipients,” he said.
He said this to reporters after observing and flagging off the mission of the Caring Astro Flood Assistance Project with the collaboration of the Tesco supermarket, here today.
Muhyiddin explained that besides gathering more assets from the government and private sector to speed up the channelling of aid, cooperation from the airlines was also needed to help in providing logistic facilities.
The Caring Astro and Tesco Flood Assistance Project mission today brought 40 tons of food supplies and basic necessities which had been gathered since it was launched yesterday, to be distributed to flood victims in the East Coast. – BERNAMA
