PUTRAJAYA – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today proposed that the Malaysian Youth Council (MYC) diversify its leadership to reflect the racial and ethnic composition of the country.
As such, he said, the Youth and Sports Ministry and MYC would review the constitutions of the parent youth organisations so that the leadership of all youth organisations and associations in the country reflected the racial and ethnic composition.
“The diversity of race and ethnicity in youth organisations and associations is important so that all are given the opportunity to establish a strong leadership.
“This will enable the MYC to be empowered to be the parent umbrella organisation for all youths in the country,” he said at the presentation of the National Youth Premier Awards 2017, here.
Also present were Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan and MYC president Mua’ammar Ghadafi Jamal Jamaluddin.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, also announced the government’s approval of a RM10-million administrative fund for MYC and the youth organisations under its jurisdiction to carry out programmes for youths.
He suggested that youths convey their views with propriety and wisdom, particularly when dealing with differences of opinion.
“If differences of opinion culminate in polemics, they will bring no good. We have to engage in intellectual discourse and not become emotional.
“Youths must learn that despite having the spirit of the tiger and lion, it is possible to discuss matters with benevolence. It is needless to raise the voice when there are differences of opinion.
“Change the rules and methodology of addressing differences of opinion,” he said. – BERNAMA
