MELAKA – The Puteri UMNO movement has called on everyone against playing up the issue on the attire worn by national gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi while competing at the 28th SEA Games in Singapore recently.
Its head, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said this was because it involved a sensitive issue, namely the Islamic religion while the gymnast had to adhere to certain regulations when competing in the event.
“We cannot compromise when it involves Islamic law, but at the same time it is not fair to contact Farah Ann for wearing the attire at the event,” she told Bernama, here today.
Mas Ermieyati said the issue should be handled properly so as not to bring down one’s dignity because Farah Ann’s performance had earned her the gold medal.
Some members of the public had shamed her for not dressing decently during the games after a photo of Farah was uploaded on Facebook following her gold medal win for Malaysia. – BERNAMA
