KUALA LUMPUR – Pahang’s head coach Dollah Salleh praised the squad’s team spirit after they beat Selangor 3-1 in their fourth Super League tie at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras last night.
He was glad that his tactical plan worked, and thanked the players for their fine display on the pitch.
Dollah also heaped praise on his import players, namely Francis Forkey Doe of Liberia and Brazilian striker Patrick dos Santos Cruz, who both had an outstanding performance despite their niggling injuries.
Cruz opened the scoring in the seventh minute of the match in his debut for Pahang while Doe scored the second in the 48th minute and slotted in a penalty in the 71st minute.
Spanish striker Rufino Segovia del Burgo scored the only goal for Selangor through a penalty in the 38th minute.
“This is what I was expecting from the players after searching for our rhythm in the last two matches, and these two import players look much more comfortable together, and thank God for getting the outcome we wished for,” Dollah told a press conference after the match.
Meanwhile, Forkey Doe was delighted to have helped his team win with two goals against his former side, while gunning for the Super League Golden Boot award title this season.
“I’m happy to score two goals against my former club and help this team to take home three important points and hopefully, tonight’s win would help me to score as many goals for the next match to win the Golden Boot award title for the second time,” said the 32-year-old who had won the title while playing for Terengganu back in 2012.
Meanwhile, Selangor coach P. Maniam admitted his team fell short during the match, adding that Pahang earned a deserved victory.
He said he would review the weaknesses in the Red Giant’s squad before facing the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) League club MOF FC in the second round of the FA Cup early next month.
“We should not have let in the third goal (through the penalty) which ended our chances for a comeback and we could see that the Pahang team had a solid match and they deserve to win this game,” said Maniam. – BERNAMA
