PEKAN – National head coach Dollah Salleh is answerable for the embarrassing display of the National squad which lost 0-6 to Palestine in their Group A World Cup 2018 Qualifier at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Tuesday.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said as the coach Dollah is responsible for picking the players who ended up with an unacceptable defeat.
Tengku Abdullah said the poor performance of the National squad would be discussed during a post-mortem conducted by the Technical and Youth Development Football Committee headed by Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad.
“I am shocked and disappointed with the huge defeat. We hoped Dollah could rectify the flaws but it did not happen. The committee must study the performance of the coach because it was the committee that recommended the coach,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Tengku Abdullah was met after presenting Service Excellence Awards for 2014, Anugerah Setia 2015 Majlis Ugama Islam and Adat Resam Melayu Pahang (MUIP), Zakat contributions from corporate sector and launch of the Dana Wakaf Pahang, here today.
Asked if there would be a revamp, Tengku Abdullah said the committee would carry out a study before any decision was made.
Tengku Abdullah did not rule out the possibility that he may step down due to the failure of the National squad since he had set the National team’s Key Performance Index (KPI), that of to qualify for the 2019 Asia Cup.
Malaysia who are almost out of the running for a place in the Asia Cup, let alone the World Cup, face United Arab Emirates on Sept 3.
