KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has issued a stern warning against politicising the arrest of controversial lawyer, Eric Paulsen.
In a statement posted on the Royal Malaysian Police’s Facebook page, the IGP said that Paulsen’s arrest was carried out according to the law to protect the peace and harmony enjoyed by Malaysia’s multiracial and multi-religious community.
“I implore the public not to take the peace that we have achieved for granted. Please do not do anything that can ignite racial and religious tensions because it has serious security implications.â€
“Do not be too arrogant in exercising freedom of speech as we should all be aware that freedom has its limits.â€
“I warn any quarter not to politicise or manipulate Paulsen’s arrest to a point it can affect public safety.â€
Khalid also said that no one should do anything that can ignite racial and religious tensions in the name of freedom as it could tear the fabric of the country’s multiracial society.
He added that the police will take stern action against those who break the laws of the country.
He said that this was to protect the rights and freedom of the greater public to enjoy peace and harmony without being incited to do otherwise by parties with hidden agendas.-NST
