SEREMBAN – A disabled woman died in a fire this evening after flames engulfed her house in Kampung Baru, Blok A, Ampangan here.
Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the victim, Irawati Malindo, 30, was found at the front door. It is believed she had tried to escape but failed.
“We received a distress call at 5.45 pm and arrived at the scene 10 minutes later. Three fire engines, with 30 firemen rushed to the scene. Two of the fire-engines were from the Seremban Fire Station and one from the Senawang Fire Station,” he told reporters at the scene.
He said the victim was alone in the house when the incident occurred. One of the victim’s sister, Nabila, 24, arrived when the fire was being put out.
“The fire was raging when the fire engines arrived and we took 10 minutes to control the fire. Two cars were destroyed in the fire but we managed to save six houses nearby,” he added.
Initial investigations revealed that the fire started in the centre of the house and spread quickly, he said, adding that the cause of the fire and the losses incurred were being investigated. – BERNAMA
