JOHOR BAHRU – Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd is looking at increasing its 4G LTE network coverage from 34 per cent to 45 per cent nationwide by year-end following its rapid LTE expansion nationwide.
Chief Network Officer, Network & Operations S. Kesavan said the company plans to expand the coverage to Melaka and Negeri Sembilan.
“For Johor Baharu, our coverage for 4G LTE is already 75 per cent.
“We plan to continue the LTE rollout momentum nationwide with an emphasis on improving network quality to provide Malaysians with the best internet experience,” he told to reporters after the 4G LTE launch here.
Apart from Johor Baharu, Digi’s 4G LTE services are currently available in the Klang Valley, Penang, Kuantan, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Labuan, Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Kampar, Langkawi, and Port Dickson.
The company currently has a subscriber base of 11.7 million, of which 56.7 per cent is made up of mobile internet users.
Meanwhile, Johor Public Works, Rural and Regional Development Committee chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad said the state government had shortlisted four internet providers for Johor Free WiFi rollout.
“The successful provider will be launching its service by August and we hope to fully rollout the 140 free WiFi hot spots in the state year-end,” he said, adding that the state government is allocating RM3 million a year to maintain the hot spots. – BERNAMA
