Despite being slapped with nine charges by University of Malaya’s (UM) disciplinary board, little could dampen outspoken student Fahmi Zainol’s spirit to heed on with his “subversive” speeches around Malaysia.
Last night, the UMÂ students’ representative council lead was detained for conducting a public speech without permission from the local authorities, along with a few other students from other public universities, at Jalan Gaya,Kota Kinabalu, here.
However, it was reported that Fahmi remains unperturbed by the arrest, stating that he was “enthusiastic as ever” to resume his speeches around local public universities.
Fahmi got into trouble with his university’s management when he invited PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to give a speech at UM on the eve of the sodomy appeal.
Despite the administration’s ban on the event, Fahmi went ahead with the October 27 programme.
He and seven other students were dragged in to face before the UM disciplinary panel last Friday for an explanation.
Last Friday, Fahmi and his allies had also gathered at Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM)‎ in Gombak as part of their “Jelajah Mahasiswa” roadshow.
The pack will continue their tour to the northern region, starting at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in Sintok, this Friday; Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Pulau Pinang.MYNEWSHUB
