Daughter, Mother Escape Burning Car On PLUS Expressway

NILAI – Two family members had a narrow escape when the car they were traveling in caught fire at Km280.7 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound early today.

Nilai Fire and Rescue Station operation chief Mohd Fauzi Shamir said in the 6.50am incident, the victim, R.Yugeswari, 33, and her mother, only known as Ruekmono, 64, were traveling in a Proton Pesona car from Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan to Subang Jaya, Selangor.

“The victims (Yugeswari) who was driving, saw the smoke was coming out of the engine compartment and stopped the car.

“Both of them alighted from the car as the fire spread quickly and burned 80 per cent of the vehicle,” he said in a media statement here.

Mohd Fauzi said the incident had caused a two-kilometre traffic congestion along the highway.

“A team comprising two officers, eight firefighters and two engines from Nilai station were deployed to provide assistance and it took us 30 minutes to douse the fire,” he said. – BERNAMA
