KUALA LUMPUR: PLUS Malaysia Bhd collected an average of RM378, 486 daily at the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau toll along the Federal Highway, said Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin.
Rosnah said the government had continuously restructured the toll charges under the concessionaire to ensure they remained low and did not burden the public.
“The total amount collected daily at the Batu Tiga and Rasau toll is RM378,486, with RM228,650 collected at the Batu Tiga toll and RM149,836 at the Sungai Rasau toll,” she told Khalid Abdul Samad (PAS-Shah Alam) during question time.
Khalid had asked the Ministry for a breakdown of the daily collection at the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau toll booths on the Federal Highway.
Rosnah said the amount collected was used to operate and maintain the 823km highway under the concessionaire.
“Not all are making a lot of money and must be seen in a larger picture.
“A total 266,640 vehicles pass through the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau toll daily – 155,662 at the Batu Tiga toll and 110,978 vehicles at the Sungai Rasau toll,” she said
She added that toll users were only paying RM1.10 instead of RM2.40 at the Batu Tiga toll which was listed under the initial concessionaire agreement.
“The government is concerned over the rising cost of living and has restructured toll fees over the years – in 1999, 2002 and 2011.
“Based on the 2011 restructuring agreement , all agreements with PLUS Malaysia Bhd have been standardised until 31 Dec 2038,” she said.
