KUALA LUMPUR: The debate between Tony Pua and Arul Kanda Kandasamy will not be able to solve the problems in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case, said Khairy Jamaluddin.
The Youth and Sports Minister said he was more interested in the outcome of the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) investigations into the state investment arm than the live debate between Pua and Arul, which is set to be organised by RTM within the month.
“Perhaps the debate will enlighten the public, but it cannot resolve the outstanding problems in the 1MDB case. The more important solution is through the PAC proceedings,†Khairy told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday.
PAC chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin said on Monday that the committee planned to resume its probe on 1MDB by calling key figures and witnesses to testify.
Pua, who is a PAC member, had challenged Arul to a debate or Q&A session after the latter appeared in an interview with Bernama TV and had provided answers which Pua claimed were recycled.
Arul, who is 1MDB group executive director, had initially accepted the challenge provided Pua leaves his post in the PAC, but later agreed to take on the Petaling Jaya Utara MP without any conditions.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said RTM was in contact with Arul and Pua’s camp to finalise the details and format of the debate, which should ideally take place “within the next week if possible.â€
Pua has also provided the 1MDB boss with 10 initial questions he wants answered at the upcoming debate.-The Star
