NORIZMAN Ismail admitted that he made a ‘rookie error’ in Round Eight of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Kangar, Perlis and he has every intention of making up for that mistake in the penultimate round at Jempol, Negeri Sembilan this weekend.
The Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing rider crashed at the chicane section of the Kangar track while leading the CP130 race in the opening lap but recovered his Honda to finish the race 12th with just four points. As a result title rival, Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi (Givi Honda Yuzy Racing) extended his championship lead to 32-points with his fifth win for the season.
Well aware he now stands a very slim chance to win the title given the huge deficit between them, Norizman heads into the Jempol round looking to break his podium duck rather than focus on the title fight. The last time the two-time CP130 champion stepped on the podium was in Round Six in Kluang two months ago.
“We did everything right leading up to the race in Kangar. We posted the quickest lap in the practice sessions and secured front row in the qualifying. We even had an excellent start at the race and got ahead of the field going into the first turn. Unfortunately at the chicane I lost the front and tumbled. That was a rookie error and it shouldn’t have happened,†said Norizman.
“I could have retired but the championship was at stake so I picked up the bike, continued and salvaged as many points that I could. But in the end it doesn’t make much difference because if Zaqhwan wins or finishes second this weekend, the title will be his,†he added.
Speaking about his expectations for Jempol, Norizman commented, “My hopes for the CP130 title is looking bleak but that does not mean I have given up. I will try my best to win this weekend’s race in Jempol or at least finish on the podium.”
