KUALA LUMPUR – The High Court here today dismissed the suit filed by former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chief activist Mohd Anas Sudin against party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Justice Nik Hasmat Nik Mohamad also ordered Mohd Anas to pay cost of RM5,000 to Muhyiddin after allowing Muhyiddin’s application to strike out the suit on the grounds that it was a trivial case, abused the court proceedings and lacked any cause of action.
The judge made the decision in chambers in the presence of lawyer Rosli Dahlan representing Muhyiddin and Hazwan Mohd Nor representing Mohd Anas.
Mohd Anas filed the suit on June 6 last year, in which he claimed that Muhyiddin had issued a defamatory statement at the Parliament lobby on April 6, 2017, saying that he (Mohd Anas) had become a member of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) even before he quit PPBM.
Mohd Anas claimed that the statement made was false and malicious, aimed to damage his image and reputation. – BERNAMA
