MELAKA – A married couple lost their lives when the car they were travelling in, crashed into the back of a lorry along kilometre 187, North-South Expressway around 5.40 am today.
State Traffic Enforcement and Criminal Investigation Department acting chief Supt Mohd Sham Abdullah said the incident happened when the couple’s Proton Persona car skidded and veered into the emergency lane before crashing into the rear of the parked lorry which had broken down.
He told Bernama when contacted that Mohd Hairul Ab.Jalil, 40, and his wife Saadah Ab.Hamid, 35, died at the scene, and their bodies sent to Jasin Hospital for post mortem.
Meanwhile in MARANG, three individuals including a teacher were killed in an accident involving two vehicles at kilometre 42 Jalan Kuala Terenggan -Kuantan, near Kampung Gong Balai here, at 7.20 am.
Zaimah Abdul Rahman, 54, a teacher at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Datuk Awang Jabar here was heading to the school to give extra class to her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students when the incident happened.
One of her students, Muhammad Abdin Syakirin Ahmad Yusup,17, told reporters when met that their teacher was supposed to give them extra class in Bahasa Melayu subject at 8am.
When she failed to arrive after 8.20 am, her students thought that she had something more important to attend to.
“Not long after, we read in a group Whatsapp that a white-coloured Viva car was involved in an accident but we did not realise that it could be Cikgu’s. We went to the scene to see what had happened,” he said.
The other two deceased were Rohimah Baru, 53, who was driving a Proton Saga car and her step sister Kamariah Draman, 44. Another passenger in the car sustained injuries.
Marang District police chief, DSP Mohd Suhaimi Ali said when contacted that the bodies were brought to the forensic unit at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for post mortem. The injured victim was treated at the same hospital. – BERNAMA
