Couple Plead Not Guilty To Neglecting Children

IPOH – A married couple pleaded not guilty in separate Magistrate’s Court here today to charges of neglecting and abandoning their two children at Taman Kleban Jaya, Chemor here.

S. Nasavalli, 38, and Mohammad Hajimeer Dollah, 31, were charged with leaving their three-year-old daughter, Nor Sarinya Abdullah, without reasonable supervision at No 2, Laluan 1, Taman Klebang Jaya, Chemor, between Dec 28, 2014 and March 3, 2015.

Deputy public prosecutor Nadiatul Athirah Azman, who prosecuted, requested bail at RM7,00 each with one surety and an order for them to not be allowed to approach their other child, who is the key witness in the case.

However, the lawyer representing the couple, M. Kathan, said Mohammad Hajimeer was working as a driver in Gua Musang in Kelantan with a monthly income of RM2,000, while and would return Nasavalli was working in Johor Bahru.

He said the children were left with a babysitter and the couple would return to visit them every three months.

Magistrate Suhaima Mohd Noor then set bail at RM5,000 with one surety each .

In another Magistrate’s Court, the couple were also charged with committing the same offence on their six-year-old son, Muhammad Darwen Raj Abdullah, at the same place and date.

Magistrate Haslinda A. Raof set bail at RM5,000 with one surety each.

Both the charges are made under Section 33(c) of the Child Act 2011 which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or two years’ jail, or both, upon conviction.

The court set April 29 for mention of both cases. – BERNAMA
