KLANG – The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) will provide counseling service to Siti Nuraisyah Sahrin, 13, who lost both her legs after being run over by a lorry in an accident in Sabak Bernam, on Monday.

Its minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said such counseling service would also be provided to family members of the teenager, who was still traumatised based on the requirements and suitability.

“A counseling service should be given to Siti Nuraisyah who is still traumatised and trauma can give a negative impact if it is not handled properly.

“Besides that, the Social Welfare Department will also be providing a wheelchair to facilitate Siti Nuraisyah’s movement,” she told a press conference after visiting Siti Nuraisyah, who is now being treated at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, here today.

Siti Nuraisyah and her stepsister Shamin Amirah Roslan, 14, were on a motorcycle heading home to Parit 16 Sungai Panjang, Sabak Bernam from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bagan Terap when the mishap occurred at 3.30 pm.

A car was believed to have overtaken them and rubbed against their machine, causing both girls to be thrown onto the road.

Siti Nuraisyah fell right in the middle of the road and before she could react, a lorry from the opposite direction ran over her legs, while her stepsister, who was thrown onto the road shoulder dislocated both her legs.

Rohani said he had already asked Siti Nuraisyah’s family to apply for the Disabled Person’s Card, to enable her to receive all the privileges and facilities provided by the government.

UMNO Welfare Bureau chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, who also visited the victim, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak handed over his personal contribution amounting to RM10,000 to Siti Nuraisyah.

He said the UMNO Welfare Bureau would also provide Siti Nuraisyah with a pair of prosthetic legs and sponsor the victim and her parents to perform umrah (minor haj). – BERNAMA
