KOTA BHARU – A police sergeant has been placed on remand for seven days from today on suspicion of soliciting a bribe amounting to RM1,800 as an inducement for him to settle a drug case.

The remand order was issued by Kota Bharu Sessions Court assistant registrar, Norida Mohd Hussain following an application of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to detain the 50-year-old policeman.

Kelantan MACC director Datuk Moh Samsuddin Yusof said the suspect, who is attached to a narcotics division, was detained at a restaurant in Pangkalan Datu here at 3pm yesterday, several hours after receiving a report from an individual.

“In the report, the complainant said the policeman asked for RM1,800 as bribe to settle a drug case,” he said when contacted here.

Moh Samsuddin said the suspect was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC 2009. – BERNAMA
