IPOH – A contractor lost RM173,000 in cash to a group of robbers in a Toyota Vios behind a bank in Laluan Gunung Rapat 1, here, today.
Ipoh deputy police chief, Supt Ahmad Termizi Abdul Haq said the victim was with his wife in a Toyota Hilux when three men approached them after he had deposited some money in the bank at about 12 noon.
It was believed there was another accomplice as the car driver, he said.
“The victim had earlier withdrawn RM173,000 from another bank in Jalan Sultan Idris in the city centre, here, before heading to the bank in Gunung Rapat,” he said when contacted today.
Ahmad Termizi said the initial investigation found that three masked men armed with hammers and machetes came out of the Toyota Vios and broke the victim’s car windows and windscreen.
“After breaking the car windows, one of the masked men grabbed a hangbag on the front passenger seat containing RM173,000.
“The robbers then drove off in the direction of Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah,” he said.
Police are now tracking down the suspects and the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed and gang robbery. – BERNAMA
