ROMPIN – Developments brought to Rompin by Barisan Nasional (BN) can continue to persist only if BN candidate Datuk Hasan Arifin is given the mandate in the impending parliamentary by-election this Tuesday.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi said if BN managed to win with bigger majority in the by-election, he and other Cabinet ministers would try to find ways and means to enable more allocations be set aside for Rompin’s development.
“I’m sure Pahang Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob) is also concerned about the future of Rompin residents and will continue to develop the constituency.
“But first, we have to show our support, so that BN will be able to retain power in Rompin parliamentary constituency,” he said at the presentation ceremony of Al-Quran, Yassin, Mykid and Mykad to recipients at the Leban Chondong Mosque here today.
Ahmad Zahid said Hasan, who was selected as the BN candidate to replace the Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis, was also deemed the best candidate to shoulder the responsibilities left by the late Member of Parliament.
At a separate event, Ahmad Zahid, who is also BN director for Permatang Pauh by-election, said it wouldn’t seem right for him not to come here to campaign for Hasan as they had known each other since 1973.
“After leaving school, we both pursued our studies at Universiti Malaya and upon graduation, we both joined Umno Youth. It wouldn’t seem right for me not to campaign for my good friend here even if it’s only for a day,” he said when launching the Bakti Rela programme with 3,500 Rompin Rela members here before rushing back to Permatang Pauh, Penang.
Ahmad Zahid also expressed his confidence in Hasan’s capability to further develop Rompin based on his vast experience in politics, including while serving as Pahang Deputy Menteri Besar.
“This constituency is his (Hasan) playground…so, it won’t be a surprise if he would do his level best here,” the minister said, adding that if BN could retain power in Rompin on May 5, it would definitely become the moral booster for him and the whole BN election machinery to create another success story in Permatang Pauh on May 7.
The Rompin by-election sees a straight fight between Hasan and PAS candidate Nazri Ahmad.
It is being held following the death of Jamaluddin, who died in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Selangor on April 4. – BERNAMA
