Cloudy Skies, Isolated Rain Forecast On Nomination Day For Sarawak State Election

KUCHING – The weatherman has forecast cloudy skies and isolated rain in several coastal areas of Sarawak in the morning of nomination day for the Sarawak state election, scheduled on Monday (April 25).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department’s weather forecast for Monday also included isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and isolated rain in the evening.

The department said among areas that will be affected include Kuching, Samarahan, Betong, Mukah and Bintulu.

“Weather in other parts of the state is expected to be fine,” said the statement made available to Bernama, here Saturday.

Temperatures will hover between 24 Celsius and a maximum of 35 Celsius throughout the state, said the statement.

The Election Commission (EC) has set April 25 for nomination and fixed May 7 as the polling date for the 11th Sarawak state election while May 3 has been fixed for early voting.

Meanwhile, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar when contacted by Bernama advised supporters who wished to accompany their respective candidates to brace for uncertain weather.

“Supporters must come prepared for any eventualities, including rain and bring along umbrellas or wear ‘big hats’ to protect themselves from the heat or rain, provided they are allowed by the authorities on duty since some types of umbrellas are deemed dangerous,” he said.

Wan Junaidi said he was also confident that the haze in Miri would clear ad not affect the nomination process on Monday.

Open burning at the Industrial Training Institute in Kuala Baram, situated to the north of Miri, had resulted in Miri being engulfed by haze for the past few days. – BERNAMA
