PETALING JAYA: National shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei says he will love to play a match with his supposed doppelganger fan Ika Syazwani, who has become Internet famous for having a splitting image of the three-time silver Olympic medallist.
“Can,” the world No. 1 simply said when asked by reporters if he would oblige Ika’s challenge.
“If I have time, we can arrange,” he said after receiving a RM110,000 cash prize on Friday here from mobile service provider XOX Mobile for his Olympic achievement.
Chong Wei is also the brand ambassador for XOX.
Ika, a Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) student, found herself the unlikely subject of fame after her social media updates on Chong Wei went viral recently.
Her images went viral once before in 2013 and had resurfaced after his Olympic silver medal win. As of Tuesday, she said she had received about 4,000 friend requests on Facebook.
The bubbly student said she had harboured hopes of meeting the shuttler since 2010.
“If Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) can arrange for Datuk Lee Chong Wei to meet me, I will be very, very happy.
“If he comes to my university, I will ask him for a friendly game. I am not good, but I hope I can have an easy match against him,” she said.
She attributed her features to her Chinese grandmother.
XOX Mobile also handed out RM60,000 to silver medallists Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong, Goh Liu Ying, Chan Peng Soon, Pandelela Rinong and Cheong Jun Hoong at the event.
Bronze medallist Aziziulhasni Awang was given RM25,000.
The company also dispensed an undisclosed amount of cash to the badminton team’s coaches.
