KUALA LUMPUR – China is sending relief aid amounting to at least RM10mil to Malaysia as a gesture of friendship.

MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the items, which included tents, generators and water pumps, would arrive in two air force planes today.

During a briefing on the progress of the flood relief operations by the party’s Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) yesterday, Dr Wee said workers had been called to check the wiring at a few Chinese schools badly hit by the floods.

He said the party had also allocated RM330,000 for 18 schools – including 15 Chinese primary schools – in Kelantan.

Dr Wee said the CRSM had so far sent 1,000 tons of foodstuff, more than 10,000 blankets and 7,000 mattresses to the flood-hit areas.

At another event, Dr Wee was present at a ceremony when Axisjaya Group managing director Datuk Benny Hoe Tze Fook and family donated RM300,000 to CRSM.

In Kluang, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said China and the United States had offered much help to the flood victims.

He spoke about China’s donation of about 1,600 makeshift tents, among others, and the US Government’s offer of medical equipment and medicine.

“This shows Malaysia has always maintained a good relationship with foreign countries,” he said. – Bernama
