KOTA KINABALU – The establishment of the Chinese Consulate-General’s Office in Kota Kinabalu several years ago has made significant contribution to strenghtening Sabah-China ties, says Sabah Chief Minister, Tan Sri Musa Aman.

In addition, it has also made Sabah-China relations closer and increased exchanges between the state and various places in China.

According to Musa, the number of Chinese tourists who visited Sabah last year totalled about 430,000, and the Chinese tourist arrivals continued to bring considerable economic benefits and spin-offs to the state.

“Based on current trends, we are expecting more Chinese tourists and investors in the near future…we are always open to hearing from you (China) on how to better facilitate trade, tourism, investment and other sectors, in line with a vision to bring greater prosperity to both China and Malaysia, and in particular, Sabah,” he said.

Musa said this in his speech at the Chinese Lunar New Year Reception of the People’s Republic of China Consul-General in Kota Kinabalu tonight.

Present at the ceremony was the China Consul-General in Kota Kinabalu, Liang Caide, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and several state cabinet ministers.

Meanwhile, the chief minister praised China for its increasingly important role globally in building a community of a shared future for mankind.

“Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed building a community of a shared future for mankind. The Belt and Road Initiative demonstrates China’s vision and efforts in regards to building this shared future and Malaysia has responded positively to this and other relevant initiatives,” he said. – BERNAMA
