KOTA BAHARU – A total of 1,497 military personnel with their spouses were the early voters for the by-election for the Chempaka state constituency at the Dewan Tan Sri Hamid Bidin, 8th Brigade Headquarters, Pengkalan Chepa Camp, here.
The early voting centre was opened at 8am and would be closed at 5pm today.
The early voting process was witnessed by agents of the candidates contesting in the poll, besides the local observers comprising non-governmental organisations and academicians appointed by the Election Commission (EC) with permission from the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
The by-election for the Chempaka state seat is being contested by PAS and four other independent candidates.
PAS was represented by the party’s Ulama Management Head for Chempaka, Ahmad Fathan [email protected], 42, while the four independent candidates were former lecturer Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary (48), former vice-president of Kelantan Perkasa Sharif Mahmood (59), president of the Pertubuhan Keturunan Paduka Raja Cik Siti Wan Kembang Fadzillah Hussin (55), and a Health Ministry pensioner Aslah Mamat, 64.
A total of 20,390 normal voters were expected to cast their votes on polling day this Sunday.
