Chefs Play A Role In Promoting Traditional Local Cuisine

MELAKA – Chefs nationwide play an important role in promoting traditional local cuisines, especially at the international level, said Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

She urged chefs to compile various local traditional recipes handed down for generations to be promoted while ensuring that it was remembered by the present generation.

“Each state has different kinds of delicacies, especially traditional cuisines that have a unique identity…we have been ruled by British, Dutch and Portuguese colonists which have influenced our cooking, making it into a unique fusion.

“This element can also boost the tourism industry as well as attract more tourists to the country,” she said in a press conference here today.

Earlier, the Melaka Chef Club (MCC) was officiated by the Tengku Puan of Pahang, who is also its founder, at Melaka Raya. The event was also attended by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron and MCC president Rizwandy Perin.

In the same event, Tunku Azizah also presented Idris with a ‘Tourism Hero’ award for his commitment and contribution in turning Melaka into a tourist state known worldwide. – BERNAMA
