KULIM – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir wants a detailed investigation into the cause of recent flash floods in the state.
He said although the exact cause of the floods had not been determined, he did not rule out possible links to logging activities.
“So, we will investigate and take action if necessary,” he told reporters after visiting flood victims at Kampung Baru, Sungai Kob here, today.
In the 45-minute visit, he also expressed his sympathies to the family members of two victims who died in the flooding last night.
In the incident at about 11pm, two children, Johari Bakar, 57, and his daughter, Nor Suri Dalina, 14, were swept away by strong currents.
In the meantime, Mukhriz said he would ensure that all aid to flood victims in Kampung Baru Tambahan which was flooded yesterday would be channelled as soon as possible.
“Based on initial information I have received, Syarikat Air Darul Aman (SADA) has already come to fix the water supply problem due to a burst pipe. Volunteers from the Social Welfare Department will also help clean the mud in the victims’ houses,” he said. – BERNAMA
