Carpenter Jailed Five Years For Entering Syria To Support IS

KUALA LUMPUR: House carpenter Muhammad Kasyfullah Kasim (pic) was given a five-year prison sentence for entering Syria to support the IS terrorist group.

High Court Judicial Commissioner Mohamad Shariff Abu Samah meted out the sentence against Muhammad Kasyfullah, 38, after he pleaded guilty to the charge on Tuesday.

Muhammad Kasyfullah was charged under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code with entering Syria between Dec 28, 2013, and April 7, 2014, to support armed terrorism with the intent to spread an ideological cause, and endangered the Syrian public in doing so.

Mohamad Shariff ordered the sentence to run from the date of arrest, Nov 27, 2014.
