MALACCA: The registration number of a trailer that rammed into vehicles near the Hang Jebat stadium has been identified.
Malacca police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ramli Din said the heavy vehicle was from out of town.
“It is just a matter of time; the driver will be apprehended to help in investigation for reckless driving,†he said.
DCP Ramli said the police had so far received 18 reports from the affected car owners.
The trailer, he said, was believed to have been travelling without consignment when the incident occurred on Sunday.
DCP Ramli said the stadium had about 30,000 spectators that night, forcing some to park a distance away from the stadium.
Some 20 cars were badly damaged when the trailer smashed into the parked vehicles during the game.
The incident is believed to have occurred at about 10.15pm while the game between Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and the Police was ongoing.
The cars were parked along the shoulder of Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh (SPA) Highway.
Fans only discovered that the cars were damaged after one motorist informed them at the end of the Super League tournament.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said he sympathised with the losses incurred by the fans.
However, he said, they should not have parked their vehicles hazardously along a busy stretch.
