SABAK BERNAM – An Umno supreme council member today called for the suspension of party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his alleged attacks against the party president.
Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz said he will propose at the next Umno supreme council meeting that Muhyiddin be suspended.
Nazri claimed Muhyiddin had gone over the limit when he openly hit out at the leadership just before the Umno general assembly last year.
“He undermined the president. He must remember that he is the deputy president of the party and not just any ordinary member,” said Nazri, who is also tourism and culture minister.
He was speaking to reporters during a visit to the Sungai Haji Dorani Homestay here.
“His duty is to assist Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak. This is according to the party constitution,” he said, adding that Muhyiddin’s actions have gone beyond what is considered reasonable.
“This is a final warning. Quit if you are no longer a team player,” was the Padang Rengas MP’s call to Muhyiddin today.
Nazri said Muhyiddin should stop thinking of himself as a “God-sent” leader to Malaysia, claiming that many party members actually dislike him because of his arrogance.
“Don’t be too cock-sure that you are strong. The Umno delegates who voted for you in the past did not show any concern when you were dropped as deputy prime minister,” he said.
“I am one of them. The truth is that Muhyiddin has not functioned as the deputy president we elected and hoped for,” Nazri added.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin in his speech at Taman Duyung in Port Dickson on Sunday night questioned why Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali has not acted against Najib when the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had confirmed that there is a strong case.
