SUNGAI BULOH – An 11-year-old girl sustained light injury while 29 other bus passengers escaped unhurt when a bus landed on its side at the North South Expressway in Sungai Buloh this morning.
The bus driver K. Rajesh said they were on a trip to Singapore from Ipoh when it hit a road construction site after midnight.
“We had stopped at the Sungai Buloh rest area before continuing our journey (to Singapore)… When we were heading out of the rest area, a motorist had flicked the high beam and I moved to the left to give way to the car,” he said when met at the scene.
Rajesh said there were no safety cones indicating that there was a one- metre deep ditch at the left side of the road, causing the vehicle to fall into it.
However, the 30 passengers including Rajesh managed to escape through the vehicle’s broken windscreen.
It is learnt that the 11-year-old girl sustained neck injuries and received outpatient treatment at Sungai Buloh hospital.
The bus company later sent a replacement bus and the passengers continued their journey to Singapore. – NST
