ALOR SETAR – Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) today agreed to a sponsorship of RM10,000 to three schools in Kedah and Perlis, to help raise funds.
BSN Kedah/Perlis director Abdul Rani Saad said the sponsorship amount would be handed over to each school to hold the 2016 BSN School Carnival programme to raise funds through charity sales and other activities.
The schools are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Alor Janggus, SK Convent (Alor Setar), and SK Tengku Budriah (Kangar).
“For each school, BSN will sponsor RM5,000 to hold the carnival, and RM5,000 in the form of cash prizes for talent and colouring competitions, which will be deposited into the winners’ BSN accounts,” he said before the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the three schools involved here, Thursday.
He said the 2016 BSN School Carnival programme would be held from April to November, and 52 schools across the country had been selected to host the carnival which has received the full approval of the Ministry of Education.
Abdul Rani said the carnival was part of BSN’s social responsibility initiatives to inculcate the habit of saving among school students through BSN Smart Junior (BSJ) and the Student Savings Incentive Scheme (SGSP) competition.
“BSN has always emphasised on educating children to understand the importance of saving and being thrifty, and BSJ and SGSP are seen as the best platforms to educate children to save money,” he said.
BSJ, which was formerly known as Young Savers Club is a savings club for students from ages 7 to 21, and has recorded 267,000 members as of December last year. – BERNAMA
