KUALA LUMPUR – A British man died and a female teacher was badly injured when the car they were travelling in crashed in the Smart Tunnel here yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Legal staff officer DSP S. Markandan said when the incident occurred at 4.50am, the two were believed to be on their way to the federal capital.
“The car in which both the victims were travelling lost control and skidded before hitting the tunnel’s wall.
“The British national, Thomas George, 22, was severely injured and died on the spot while the 25-year-old driver (Basheera Hayati Abdul Malik, 25,) was badly hurt and was brought to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement.
Markandan said the case was being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. – Bernama
